NDIAME GAYE

(Kampala 31st March,2021). The National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders expresses its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Commissioner Ndiame Gaye. Commissioner Gaye was the Special Rapporteur and Chairperson of the Working Group on the Death Penalty, Extra-judicial, Summary or Arbitrary Killings and Enforced Disappearances in Africa.

He was also a member of the working groups on Prevention of Torture in Africa and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa. He was also the country Rapporteur for Central Africa Republic, Guinea Conakry, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Sierra Leone and Uganda. During the brief period, he interacted with a number of civil society actors, mostly virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  From his inter-session activity reports presented during the 67th Ordinary Session of the ACHPR in November 2020, he demonstrated a keen interest in contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa through his mandate and mechanism.

On behalf of members of the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda, we express our sincere sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues. We extend our condolences to the African Commission on Human and People’s rights Chairperson, Commissioners and the NGO Forum.
